Happy New Year! (Ok, so it may be getting a bit late for a New Year post, but I’m going with it.) This seemed like the perfect opportunity to get this little blog back on track, and what better way to do that than by sorting out my 2017 travel plans?
I have a confession – said travel plans probably won’t be too exciting or that far afield for the first half of the year. Given that we’re currently saving up for a wedding and the honeymoon that goes along with it, there won’t be many far-flung destinations being travelled to or expensive trips planned, but that’s not to say I don’t have a few travel-related things up my sleeve!
New year, new experiences
One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to travel more. That includes experiencing more and seeing more of the world, even if it’s only in my local vicinity. And one way I’m going to do that is by committing to having at least one trip and/or experience every single month.
Given the budget constraints I’m currently facing, I’m starting small. Next weekend we’re having friends visiting, and are planning on arranging a gin distillery tour or a trip to a local beer brewery – tick. After that, a trip to stay with a friend in Bath could be on the cards – another tick.
Then there’s something I’ve wanted to do for ages – a stay in a shepherds hut. Again, it isn’t too far afield, but there’s something so romantic about cosying up in a tiny hut with a wood burner and fire pit, particularly at this time of year. This is a definite tick in my book.
After that there’ll be a weekend in London (potentially involving a stay in the new gin hotel – can you spot a theme emerging?), and there’s a slight chance of a trip to Germany before the summer, too. As well as all that, I’m planning on exploring more of my local area, appreciating what’s around me and finding those hidden gems that can be taken for granted (being a local tourist and all that).
But then, the big one – the honeymoon! This will tick two places off my wanderlist (the Maldives and Dubai), and I absolutely can’t wait! It should tick off a load of extra experiences, too: there’ll be an overwater villa, sunset cruises, private island stays and swimming with manta rays/turtles/sharks, not to mention Dubai’s top sights and the infamous Friday brunch. Oh, and getting married. So excited!
After that there could be a family trip to Italy, this time staying in a hotel owned by a wine-making estate (definite theme), but from then on I can hopefully start building up my travelling savings pot. That’s why I’m leaving the rest of the year free for impromptu trips as and when they can be arranged, with a few weekends away hopefully on the agenda before the year is out.
2017 in a nutshell
- Gin/beer tour
- London (potentially with gin hotel)
- Shepherds hut
- Potential trip to Germany
- Local travel (north Norfolk, beaches, museums, etc.)
- The Maldives
- Italy wine hotel
- Impulse trips
Actually, it’s looking pretty good! Bring on the year of new experiences, and happy travelling!
(Has anyone else got any exciting travel plans for 2017? I’d love to hear about them!)
