Brunching at The Crown, London

Delicious food, chic interiors and more prosecco than you can shake a stick at? The Crown in Bow, London, can deliver. We happened upon this place by accident when the friends we were staying with had trouble finding a brunch spot that wasn’t fully booked – it was the day of the World Cup quarter finals and everywhere was packed – but luckily, The Crown had space. And we were thrilled that it did!

Situated right next to Victoria Park, The Crown is typical of the area – your traditional London pub with a bit of an upgrade. Think wooden floors and original stained glass panels, but with eclectic furniture in the dining area, complete with sumptuous leather seats, cushions and contemporary light fittings. It even had a doggy station of water bowls and treats, which went down very well with the guide dog we were with. Oh, and a living wall.

I confess that I didn’t take too many pictures of the interior as I was far too focused on the food, which was delicious. For all of £20, the bottomless brunch includes unlimited prosecco or Bloody Marys, complete with as much fruit, muesli and toast as you can manage, and a main course of your choice. Just check out this fruit plate:

My disappointment at there being no eggs benedict on the menu was quickly forgotten when my main of burrata, tomato and pesto open sandwich arrived (complete with a slice of thick-cut ham on the side. We went off-menu). I mean just look at it:

And it tasted just as good as it looked. Better yet, it was all washed down with copious amounts of prosecco. They take bottomless brunch to a whole new level here – we went as a group of four and were given bottles rather than glasses of prosecco, and they didn’t bat an eyelid at our repeated requests for more. I think we may have gotten through about five bottles by the end. We even pimped it up with strawberries and passion fruit from the fruit plate (I do love a breakfast cocktail). Definite winner!

Insanely good value for money, particularly if you like a drink, and delicious food to match – this was easily one of my favourite brunching experiences. And we didn’t let it stop there, either. We had to vacate the table as it was booked for another party, but were able to nab one outside instead, where we polished off the last of the prosecco in glorious sunshine.

EXTRA TIP: the pub is part of the Young’s group, so make sure to download the app before you go. It often gives you little treats, which this particular weekend was a free pina colada. Well, it’d be rude not to…

You can find The Crown at 223 Grove Road, Bow, London, E3 5SN.
